Produced by George Harrison, Shankar Family & Friends is an almost-forgotten 1974 masterwork on which Ravi Shankar and Harrison wed Eastern and Western music. The second album released on Harrison's Dark Horse Records, it features memorable contributions from Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Nicky Hopkins, Jim Keltner, Klaus Voorman, Tom Scott and an array of Indian virtuosos including Alla Rakha and Hariprasad Chaurasia. Mobile Fidelity's reissue—sourced from the original analog tapes, pressed at RTI, and limited to 3,000 numbered copies—restores the album's airiness and aura, making it available on vinyl for the first time since 1975.
