Rega - Planar 6 Turntable

Where Rega’s flagship engineering starts: a Tancast 8 foam core plinth, dual layer glass platter, and the Neo PSU included and hand-tuned to this deck’s motor.

The Planar 6 is the point at which the range stops iterating and starts borrowing from the reference decks. The plinth abandons laminated board entirely for a Tancast 8 polyurethane foam core skinned in high pressure laminate — an ultra-light, very stiff sandwich that Rega uses all the way up to the Planar 10. The argument is counterintuitive but consistent across Rega’s whole catalogue: a light, stiff plinth stores and releases less energy than a heavy one. Double brace technology ties the tonearm mount to the bearing housing.

The platter becomes a dual layer float glass assembly, and the RB330 arm gains a custom stainless steel balance weight in place of the standard mild steel item.

The decisive change is the power supply. This is the first deck in the range where the Neo PSU is included rather than optional, and it is not a generic bolt-on — it is custom-matched and hand-tuned to that individual turntable’s motor. You get push-button electronic speed change, an advanced anti-vibration motor circuit, and user-adjustable fine speed in 0.01 RPM steps. The Reference EBLT belt is standard.

Cartridge is a factory-fitted option rather than standard: Nd5, Nd7 or the Ania Pro moving coil.

Rega’s guidance is that the arm should sit reasonably parallel to the record surface or slightly lower at the mounting, and that its optional 2mm spacers are only needed if the rear of a cartridge fouls the record while playing
