American jazz drummer Roy Brooks began his career in the 1950s and joined the Horace Silver Combo in the early 1960s, later playing with Stanley Turrentine, Yusef Lateef and Charles Mingus while becoming a significant influence on Detroit's legendary TRIBE label. As a bandleader with The Artistic Truth, he pursued spiritual jazz guided by a refined sense of spirituality, and this 1974 live recording, "The Sahel Concert" at Town Hall, stands out as one of the most expressive showcases of his artistry.
