With his big sound and spirituality, Ohio saxophonist Rudolph Johnson earned Coltrane comparisons, but he mixes bebop, soul-jazz, and groovy funk in his own way on this 1971 LP, his first Black Jazz Records release. His bandmates had played with everyone from Marvin Gaye to Pharoah Sanders, and the result is stellar. A first-time vinyl reissue.
