Galaxia Tropical collects 14 tracks from Ranil y su Conjunto Tropical, one of the great practitioners of Peruvian cumbia amazónica. Born Jorge Raúl Llerena Vásquez in 1935, Ranil started his own label, Producciones Llerena, in the Peruvian Amazon and crafted a sound locals lovingly called "llullampeo" — imaginative, unpredictable, and fabulously unrestrained. With a rotating cast of brilliant musicians, his percussionists wove grooves that remain some of the most vivid documents of that fearless, free-spirited, often psychedelic ensemble.
