180g Vinyl, Gatefold Sleeve
Originally released in 1978, Flight 17 was the first-ever recording by Horace Tapscott's Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, the legendary Los Angeles community big band formed in the early 1960s. Producer Tom Albach founded Nimbus Records specifically to document Tapscott and his ensemble, capturing their dense, adventurous fusion of spiritual and avant-garde jazz. From the three-part title track to the Latin-tinged "Horacio," the album showcases the unusual textures of the Arkestra's massed horns, pianos and flutes.
