Khruangbin's fourth studio album, A La Sala ("To the Room" in Spanish), is an exercise in returning in order to go further, and doing so on your own terms. A cascade of crisp melodies emanates from Mark "Marko" Speer's reverb-heavy guitar, dancing around Laura Lee Ochoa's minimalist dub-inflected bass while Donald "DJ" Johnson's drums hold down the pocket. Completed in the company of longtime engineer Steve Christensen with minimal overdubs, it's the measured morning after to 2020's party record Mordechai — a gorgeously airy, intimate record that sounds like no one but Khruangbin.
