Lonnie Liston Smith's Expansions is one of the most influential records ever released, its sound ricocheting through many different music scenes and serving as one of dance music's fundamental building blocks. For its 50th anniversary, the album was cut all-analogue from the original master tape at Frank Merritt's Carvery studio in East London. Produced by Lonnie and Bob Thiele (John Coltrane's A Love Supreme), it goes well beyond the danceability of the title track to stand as one of the great jazz albums of the 1970s.
