On 1975's Visions of a New World, he and his working unit The Cosmic Echoes dig deeper into a smooth, soulful groove — a late-night blend of seduction and meditation, with brother Donald Smith on vocals and a band that turns up the heat on the Latin-tinged "Devika" and the shimmering funk of "Summer Nights."
