Bernard Haitink - Mahler: Symphony No.5; Adagio (Symphony No. 10) - LP
Mixed and Mastered from the Original Philips Quadraphonic Tapes
Bernard Haitink's Mahler has always been one of the glories of the Philips catalogue, and this set of the Fifth Symphony and the Adagio from the Tenth comes from the analogue cycle he made in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Recorded quadraphonically in Amsterdam's Concertgebouw in 1970, it was praised by Gramophone for its "special clarity." For this release, Rainer Maillard at Emil Berliner Studios used the original four-track quadraphonic master tape to cut a new stereo mix directly to the cutter head, preserving a pure analogue path throughout.
