The Sisters of Mercy roared back in 1987 with Floodland, opening on the driving two-part hymn "Dominion / Mother Russia." Frontman Andrew Eldritch (with bassist Patricia Morrison) builds a black soundscape that is majestic and vast, filled with lush production courtesy of Jim Steinman and the New York Choral Society. From the ethereal "1959" to the downright regal "This Corrosion," it stands as a definite milestone of goth rock.
