On Day of the Doug, Son Volt revisits the music of legendary Texas troubadour Doug Sahm (Sir Douglas Quintet, Texas Tornados). More than a tribute, it's a summoning of a songwriter whose work forged country, Tex-Mex, rock, R&B, folk, and psychedelia into a uniquely American sound. "It's like reconnecting with a hero," says Son Volt founder Jay Farrar. The Intro and Outro tracks are phone messages Sahm left Farrar over the years.
