180 Gram Vinyl
One of the most singular albums in the Strata-East catalog, A Spirit Speaks is the lone project from a group led by bassist Bill Lee (father of Spike Lee) alongside his siblings — named for their enslaved ancestors, Mike and Phoebe. Recorded at Minot Studios in White Plains in December 1973, the music blends warm modal jazz, gospel, and the wordless soprano of Grace Lee Mims into something both powerful and deeply personal. Reissued on audiophile vinyl by Pure Pleasure.
