The Passion of the Christ is the 2004 biblical drama directed by Mel Gibson, with an original score composed by John Debney. The soundtrack earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score and topped both the Top Christian Albums and Top Soundtracks charts in 2004, later winning a Dove Award for Instrumental Album of the Year. Blending folk instruments, Eastern-tinged harmonics, and solo and choral voices, Debney collaborated with violinist and vocalist L. Shankar and singer/double-violinist Gingger Shankar to create a coherent, moving musical statement that stands on its own apart from the film.
