A reaction to the prog and glam of the early 1970s, U.K. pub rock drew on the rock and roll and R&B of earlier decades, and few bands delivered it more powerfully than Dr. Feelgood. The Essex quartet cut their debut Down by the Jetty with producer Vic Maile, pairing Wilko Johnson originals like "She Does It Right" and "Roxette" with the bluesy shout of frontman Lee Brilleaux. An inspiration to bands from The Jam and the Boomtown Rats to Blondie, the album celebrates its 50th anniversary with this 2025 remaster by Barry Grint.
