After almost two years of commercial struggle, Sweet Dreams became the duo's breakthrough on both sides of the Atlantic. The title track remains one of their most recognizable songs, and its success turned the previously overlooked "Love Is a Stranger" into a hit as well. The album moved away from the guitar-tinged sound of their debut toward raw analogue synthesizers and drum machines.
