Miami-born trumpeter Blue Mitchell brought a soulful, swinging style to his 1964 Blue Note debut as a leader, The Thing to Do. The set ranges from the irrepressible calypso "Fungii Mama" to the stunning ballad "Mona's Mood" and swinging numbers like "Step Lightly" and the grooving title track. Pianist Chick Corea makes one of his earliest recorded appearances here, alongside drummer Al Foster, bassist Gene Taylor, and tenor saxophonist Junior Cook. Mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
