A little-known Boston-born baritone saxophonist, Serge Chaloff was one of the earliest bebop practitioners on his instrument, possessing remarkable agility and lyricism. In 1954 he made a comeback with a stellar pair of recordings for Capitol, the defining of which was Blue Serge. Chaloff is joined by pianist Sonny Clark, bassist Leroy Vinnegar, and drummer Philly Joe Jones for a laid-back seven-song set of standards plus the sole original "Susie's Blues." This Tone Poet edition was produced by Joe Harley and mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes.
