The Modest Jazz Trio - Good Friday Blues - Tone Poet LP
$38.99
180g Vinyl LP, Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series
Recorded in the wee hours of Good Friday 1960, this charming, impromptu Pacific Jazz session captured the easygoing alchemy of The Modest Jazz Trio: Jim Hall on guitar, Red Mitchell on piano, and Red Kelly on bass. What began as a single track for a blues anthology became six inspired performances, including two Mitchell originals and songbook standards like "Willow Weep for Me" and "I Remember You." The drum-less setting lets Hall's gorgeous, subtle tone shine while Mitchell, primarily known as a bassist, surprises with his impressive piano chops.
