For nearly 30 years, SUNN O))) - Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson - have pushed the boundaries of heavy music, straddling the avant-garde and rock to forge an instantly recognizable style of their own. This self-titled tenth album, their debut for Sub Pop and first new material since 2019's Pyroclasts, was tracked at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington with Brad Wood. Performing all instrumentation themselves, the duo shape expansive, panoramic compositions threaded with delicate piano interludes and field recordings, framed visually by two Mark Rothko paintings and liner notes by writer Robert Macfarlane.
