GRAMMY-winning drummer-producer Terri Lyne Carrington and GRAMMY-nominated vocalist Christie Dashiell reimagine one of the seminal works of jazz as protest, Max Roach's 1961 We Insist! Freedom Now Suite. Honoring the original's civil-rights-era urgency, the pair broaden the suite with influences from gospel, soul, funk, Afro-Latin, West African, and blues traditions. The album features a cameo from trombonist Julian Priester, the only living musician from the original recording.
