Tommy Flanagan was known for his tasteful, flawless and swinging piano playing. Recorded in 1974 but not released until decades later, 'Solo Piano' was the pianist's first recording as a leader in 13 years and offers some of his most enjoyable unaccompanied work. Ranging from swing-tinged readings of standards to bebop-era gems, it's a warm, melody-rich showcase of an artist who built his improvisations off the song itself.
