Recorded over two days in August 1971 at A&M Studios in Los Angeles, Ethiopian Knights captures Donald Byrd's evolution from hard-bop trumpeter to jazz-funk pioneer. Built around the extended funk workouts "The Emperor" and "The Little Rasti," it features standout contributions from tenor saxophonist Harold Land and vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson.
