Nearly five years after their last release, Montreal psych-rock band The Besnard Lakes return with a searing, 72-minute suite about the darkness of dying and the light on the other side. The sextet's most uncompromising recording, it unfolds as a continuous long-form work — nine tracks that can be heard as a single piece, overflowing with melody and harmony, drone and dazzle. A bright-blazing requiem informed in part by the death of Jace Lasek's father in 2019, it finds the band unleashed and unconstrained.
