Aria Evo X replaced the long-running Aria 900 series in 2024, and the N°2 is the smaller of the two mid-size floorstanders. Aria sits one clear step above Vestia in Focal’s range: Flax cones rather than Slatefiber, a TMD surround on the midrange, real high-gloss lacquer or walnut veneer rather than a leather-effect wrap, and an aluminium-alloy base under the cabinet.

Flax is a sandwich — high-quality French flax fibre between two thin sheets of fibreglass. The flax fibre is hollow and roughly half the weight of fibreglass, so it makes a good core, and the two glass skins stiffen it the way the flanges of an I-beam do. The midrange adds TMD, a Tuned Mass Damper: small ring-shaped weights moulded into the rubber surround, tuned to cancel the surround’s own resonance around 1–2kHz, which is exactly the band the ear is most sensitive to.

The tweeter is the aluminium/magnesium TAM inverted dome pressed with an ‘M’ cross-section that stiffens it and extends usable output to 30kHz. Because the dome is inverted, the voice coil attaches around its outer rim rather than at a single point, which drives the whole radiating surface directly and keeps dispersion wide and even. The cabinet is lifted on an aluminium base that provides the venting clearance, decouples the speaker from the floor and steadies a fairly slim tower.

Focal’s manual is explicit about placement: out of the corners, pulled away from the rear wall, in an equilateral triangle with the listening seat, tweeters at seated ear height.
