A genuine three-way floorstander on three 6-1/2″ Slatefiber woofers, in a cabinet only 10 inches wide.

Vestia N°3 is the second-from-top floorstander in Focal’s Vestia range, sitting above Theva and Chora and below Aria Evo X. The interesting part is the arithmetic: three 6-1/2″ bass drivers and a dedicated 6-1/2″ midrange in a cabinet 25.6cm (about 10 inches) wide. Most speakers that narrow are two-and-a-half-way designs asking one driver to do two jobs. This one is not.

The cones are Slatefiber — recycled carbon fibre laid down in a single direction rather than as a random mat, bound in a thermoplastic. Aligning the fibres puts the stiffness where the cone needs it while the polymer matrix absorbs vibration, so the cone stops when the signal stops. Above them sits Focal’s 1″ aluminium/magnesium TAM tweeter with an ‘M’-shaped inverted dome, a urethane waveguide and a rear decompression chamber that absorbs the back wave off the dome instead of letting it reflect through.

It is ported twice, front and rear, which Focal uses to make it less dependent on distance to the rear wall than a purely rear-ported design. The aluminium base plate is fitted at the factory and builds in the sloping-foot time alignment. Focal recommends rooms of 25 m² (roughly 270 sq ft) and up. Sensitivity is a generous 92dB, but the 2.9 Ω minimum impedance means the amplifier should be one that is happy delivering current rather than one that merely quotes a big wattage.
