Written with son Cody Carpenter and longtime collaborator Daniel Davies, Cathedral grew out of a vividly cinematic dream Carpenter had in 2024: an abandoned downtown Los Angeles cathedral, a gruesome murder, and something living in the catacombs below. Every track is written to score a specific chapter of the companion Storm King Comics graphic novel. The trademark Carpenter pulse is all here, but this time it is shoved up against Davies' guitars — Carpenter himself has called it their first heavy metal album. A natural next step for anyone who loves the Lost Themes records and wants them louder.
