[Pre Order] Coleman Hawkins - The Hawk Relaxes - Moodsville Acoustic Sounds Series LP *
Release Date: September 18, 2026
The debut of the Moodsville Acoustic Sounds Series — all-analog 180g LP, lacquers cut from the original master tapes by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab, pressed at QRP in a tip-on jacket.
Originally released in 1961, The Hawk Relaxes is widely regarded as one of the finest albums of Coleman Hawkins' later period. The man who invented the jazz tenor saxophone spends the session doing exactly what the title promises — unhurried, warm, and completely in command of a ballad.
Hawkins is joined by Ronnell Bright on piano, Kenny Burrell on guitar, Ron Carter on bass, and Andrew Cyrille on drums. Craft Recordings and Acoustic Sounds bring the Moodsville catalog into their all-analog reissue program with this pressing, cut entirely from the original tapes.
