Brooklyn-born pianist Duke Jordan was on the front lines of the bebop revolution as a member of Charlie Parker's late-1940s quintet alongside a young Miles Davis. In 1960 he recorded his sole Blue Note album as a leader, Flight To Jordan, an exemplary hard bop date featuring a top-shelf quintet with Dizzy Reece (trumpet), Stanley Turrentine (tenor sax), Reggie Workman (bass) and Art Taylor (drums). The set presents six fine Jordan originals, from the minor-mode title track to the elegant ballad "Starbrite" and the Latin-tinged "Si-Joya."
