Blue Note mainstay Duke Pearson returned to the studio in 1964 for the sextet session Wahoo!, a perfect encapsulation of his many talents as pianist, bandleader, composer, and arranger. Writing for an ensemble featuring Donald Byrd on trumpet, James Spaulding on alto sax and flute, Joe Henderson on tenor sax, Bob Cranshaw on bass, and Mickey Roker on drums, Pearson presents five evocative originals plus a closing flight through Byrd's "Fly Little Bird Fly." This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
