Lee Konitz's Motion is a fluid, spontaneous session that ranks among the saxophonist's finest works. Recorded and released in 1961, the Creed Taylor-produced session brought together a first-time trio of Konitz, bassist Sonny Dallas and drummer Elvin Jones. With no piano, there is plenty of space for Konitz to explore his cool-toned, lyrical phrasing against Jones' dynamic, polyrhythmic drumming and Dallas' steady bass lines. The result is five conversational, often abstract takes on standards including "All of Me," "I Remember You" and "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To."
