Limited Edition Mono Vinyl 6,000 Numbered Copies Worldwide One Step All-Analog Process on Neotech VR900 DS 180-Gram High-Definition Vinyl Mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering from Rare Circa-1972 Original Analog Tapes!

Sixty years after its original 1966 release, The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds remains one of the most revered and influential albums in music history. Brian Wilson’s groundbreaking masterpiece pushed the boundaries of pop music with its innovative arrangements, emotional depth, and intricate vocal harmonies.

To celebrate the album’s 60th anniversary, Interscope-Capitol’s Definitive Sound Series (DSS) presents a premium limited-edition pressing of just 6,000 individually numbered copies. This edition features the original monophonic mix as Brian Wilson crafted it in the studio—delivered with unparalleled clarity through the state-of-the-art One Step process. This technique eliminates multiple plating steps, preserving every detail of the album’s complex orchestration and harmonies on Neotech VR900 DS 180-gram high-definition vinyl, pressed at Record Technology, Inc. (RTI).

The release draws direct inspiration from the legendary circa-1972 Brother Records pressing (initially a two-fer with Carl and the Passions – “So Tough”, later standalone), long hailed by collectors for its exceptional sonic clarity in mono. Amid nearly 400 variants of Pet Sounds worldwide, this early-’70s version has become a benchmark for audiophiles.

During archival research, the DSS team—led by producer Tom “Grover” Biery—uncovered analog tapes labeled “Reprise Master” (tied to Reprise’s distribution of Brother Records releases). Mastering engineer Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering confirmed these matched the revered 1972 pressing, with identical running times and catalog references, tracing back to the original Artisan-cut lacquers.

“For years I thought the versions I had were great, until I heard that early ‘70s Brother Records pressing,” says Biery. “It felt like hearing Pet Sounds in three-dimensional mono sound for the first time. The balance, the arrangements, the emotional depth—everything came alive. Finding these tapes is like discovering a missing chapter of history.”
