Pro-Ject - Power Supply for Non-DC Turntables 15V AC (ET-0184, 6418 412 002)

The replacement AC adapter for older Pro-Ject turntables built around a synchronous AC motor — part 6418 412 002, superseded by ET-0184. Read the compatibility note before you order: this is the part people most often buy by mistake.

Pro-Ject has used three different 15V power supplies across its history, and they are not interchangeable. Buying the wrong one is the single most common ordering error in the Pro-Ject accessory catalogue, so here is the whole picture in one place.

This part is the AC supply for turntables with a synchronous AC motor — the older, non-DC decks. Pro-Ject’s compatibility list covers the original Debut, Debut II and III, Debut Carbon (the non-DC version) and Debut Carbon USB, Essential and Essential II, Xpression Carbon, 1.2 and 1.2E, 1 Xpression and 1 Xpression II, 2.9 Classic, 2.9 Wood and 6.9, Perspective and Perspective II, and the RPM 4, 5, 6, 6SB, 9, 9X, 9XP and 10. It carries part number 6418 412 002, superseded by ET-0184.

It is not the supply for a DC-motor Pro-Ject turntable. Those decks — the Debut Carbon DC, the Debut EVO family, the E1, the X-series, the A1 and so on — take a 15V DC supply, which Pro-Ject currently publishes at 800mA. AC into a DC deck, or DC into an AC deck, will not work and may do damage. Check the label on your existing supply: if it says AC, this is your part; if it says DC, it is not.

It is also not the supply for a Phono Box or Tube Box. Every phono stage in that range runs on 18V DC, with the Phono Box RS2 on 20V DC. Nothing in the Phono Box or Tube Box line takes 15V of any kind.

One honest note on the current rating. Pro-Ject’s own retail channel is inconsistent about it: the part is sold as 15V AC 1A under the ET-0184 number and as 15V AC 550mA under the older 6418 412 002 number, and both descriptions are in circulation for what is presented as the same lineage of part. We could not find a single authoritative Pro-Ject figure that settles it. Either rating will run any of the AC turntables listed above — a synchronous motor of that size draws well under 550mA — but if the exact number matters to you, tell us and we will read the label on the unit in stock before it ships.
