The Best Record Player Thorens Has Ever Made: A Statement Flagship Developed with Seismion, Featuring Active Vibration Isolation, a Hydrodynamic Platter Bearing, and Support for Three Tonearms
The New Reference is Thorens' no-compromise flagship — the company's own engineers call it the best record player they have ever made. Developed in collaboration with vibration-isolation specialists Seismion, it attacks the fundamental enemy of vinyl playback at a level no conventional turntable can: active vibration isolation with piezoelectric sensors, working on the sky-hook damping principle, suppresses disturbances up to 100 times more effectively than air-suspension solutions — especially around the low resonance frequencies where turntables are most vulnerable.
The platter spins on a hydrodynamic disc bearing, driven by a precision belt and a 3-phase synchronous motor. An ultra-precise rotary encoder holds rotation at exactly 33.3333 rpm, with quartz-controlled speed via double oscillator specified to a maximum drift of 3 ppm over 20 years — set it up once, and it is simply correct, for decades.
Up to three tonearm bases accommodate 9", 10", and 12" arms simultaneously, inviting a collection of arms and cartridges worthy of the foundation beneath them. Offered in Black/Silver, Green/Gold, and Red/Black — and choose your configuration above: the turntable alone, or paired with the matching Seismion-isolated New Reference rack, purpose-built to complete the installation.
