A 7mm-diameter Dual DNA Helix in 16AWG with Composilex 5 insulation — twice the strand groups of the original Helicon 16, in a cable thin enough to route where a full-size speaker cable will not go.

The x in 16x means something specific, and it is not a gauge or a multiplier. Wireworld’s own page says this cable has twice as many OFC strand groups as the original Helicon 16. Same 16AWG, same two conductors, double the strand groups inside them.

What makes the Helicon worth knowing about is size. At 7mm diameter it is genuinely slim, and it still gets you a Dual DNA Helix with Composilex 5 insulation — the current-generation insulation Wireworld puts in cables costing many times more. If you are running cable along a skirting board, under a rug, around a doorframe or into a wall, a 10mm cable that will not lie flat is a real problem and a 7mm one is not.

This is the OFC version, using oxygen-free copper. Wireworld also makes a Helicon 16x OCC using the OCC-7N Ohno-cast copper at roughly twice the price; if you want that one, ask and we will get it.

Terminations are spade to spade, banana to banana, or either mixed combination, on silver and gold plated crimp contacts. Five lengths from two to six metres, sold as a pair.

One honest note on comparing this to the Solstice above it: the Solstice is 13AWG with four conductors and thirty-two strands against this cable’s 16AWG with two conductors and sixteen. The Helicon is the thinner, lighter-gauge cable and it is priced accordingly. It is a very good answer to a routing problem, not a way to get Solstice performance for less.

Composilex is Wireworld’s composite insulation, and its stated purpose is reducing triboelectric noise — the small static charges that build and discharge where a conductor rubs against its insulation as the cable moves or vibrates. That effect is real and well known in cable design. Wireworld’s specific claim that Composilex 5 beats every other low-loss insulation including Teflon is published without any supporting measurement.

  • Electrical figures: None published. Wireworld does not publish capacitance, inductance or resistance per unit length for this cable, or for any cable in the range as far as we could find. Their claims about noise and resolution are assertions rather than measurements — no test method, no figures, no independent results are given. The one objectively checkable technical claim behind the range is the DNA Helix patents, US 8,569,627 and US 9,620,262, and a patent establishes novelty rather than performance. We would rather tell you that than quote marketing copy at you as though it had been measured.
  • Country of manufacture: Not published. Wireworld is headquartered in Davie, Florida, but we could find no Made in USA claim for the cables themselves anywhere on their site — the only manufacturing statement we found concerns packaging, which they say is printed in the US. A head office is not a factory and we are not going to present it as one.
  • Warranty: Wireworld publishes a Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects to the original purchaser, with damage from abuse or wear excluded. That is essentially the whole published policy — there is no itemised exclusions list, no claims procedure and no statement about transferability, though the phrase “to the original purchaser” implies it does not transfer. Proof of purchase from an authorised dealer is required, and Wireworld asks you to go through that dealer first. The ’In Groove is an authorised Wireworld dealer.
