Ahl Nana - L'Orchestre National Mauritanien - LP
$39.99
Double LP, Gatefold
These are the first recordings of modern music from the Sahara, marking the birth of the genre known in the West as "Desert Blues" or "Desert Rock." Ahl Nana transformed the folk music of the Sahara into modern, cosmopolitan music using Western instruments like the electric guitar, paving the way for artists such as Ali Farka Touré, Tinariwen, Mdou Moctar and Bombino. Recorded in 1971 at the Boussiphone studios in Casablanca, the records were never distributed and remained unknown for nearly 50 years until Radio Martiko discovered unsold factory stock.
