180 Gram Vinyl, LP
Al Cohn was a superb arranger as well as a tenor player, and for this Jazz Workshop session RCA-Victor assembled excellent musicians — Joe Newman and Freddie Green from the Basie band, Nick Travis from Woody Herman, and studio aces Dick Katz, Buddy Jones and Osie Johnson. Four trumpets, a tenor sax, plus piano, guitar, bass and drums make for an uncommon but rewarding ensemble, swinging through relaxed improvisations on "Rosetta," "Linger A While" and "I'm Coming Virginia." This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head.
