Flugelhornist Art Farmer and guitarist Jim Hall led a regular group for a time in the mid-'60s but, apart from one occasion, had not played together again until this 1978 session. An unusual effort for CTI, it's a quintet date with no added horns, strings, or keyboards: Farmer and Hall are joined by vibraphonist Mike Mainieri, bassist Michael Moore, and drummer Steve Gadd. Given the two leaders' long-complementary, lyrical, harmonically advanced styles, the set is a complete success.
