The AT-OC9XML is built on Audio-Technica's dual moving coil design, with independent left and right channel coils wound from Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting (PCOCC) wire and aligned in a reverse V-shaped formation to minimize stylus pressure and distortion. A neodymium magnet and premium permendur yoke enhance magnetic energy, and the rigid aluminum body suppresses resonance.

The OC9XML's signature is its nude MicroLinear stylus (2.2 x 0.12 mil) on a 0.28 mm nude boron cantilever. The MicroLinear profile's tiny contact radius traces high-frequency groove detail with precision and maintains its shape as it wears, keeping performance consistent over the stylus's life while delivering frequency response out to 47,000 Hz.
