The AT-OC9XSL is built around Audio-Technica's dual moving coil design, with independent coils for the left and right channels wound from Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting (PCOCC) wire and arranged in a reverse V-shaped formation to minimize stylus pressure and distortion. A neodymium magnet and permendur yoke boost magnetic energy, while the rigid aluminum body suppresses unwanted resonance.

What sets the OC9XSL apart within the family is its nude Special Line Contact stylus (1.5 x 0.28 mil) on a 0.28 mm nude boron cantilever — the most refined stylus and cantilever combination in the OC9X series, tracing the groove wall with exceptional precision for extended frequency response out to 50,000 Hz and the line's best channel separation.
