Originally released by Epic Records in August 1993, Rise was Bad Brains' major-label debut and the follow-up to 1989's Quickness, featuring vocalist Israel Joseph-I alongside founders Dr. Know and Darryl Jenifer. This 2022 edition on The Control Group is the album's first official vinyl reissue, with lyrics and credits printed on the inner sleeve.
