French tenor saxophonist Barney Wilen, who worked alongside Miles Davis, Art Blakey and Thelonious Monk, recorded French Story in 1989 with the Mal Waldron Trio (Mal Waldron on piano, Stafford James on bass and Eddie Moore on drums). Together they interpret eight jazz compositions from classic French films, including pieces from Miles Davis' Ascenseur Pour L'Échafaud and the Yves Montand chanson Les Feuilles Mortes (Autumn Leaves). Reissued in full for the 45th anniversary of Timeless Records, now including No Problem and Quiet Temple.
