180-Gram Vinyl, Remastered by Ray Staff
Composer and trumpeter Cal Massey made only one album as a leader, and this is it: recorded in 1961 but not released until 1987. A close friend of John Coltrane and later collaborator with Archie Shepp, Massey assembled an excellent sextet — including Julius Watkins, Jimmy Garrison, and pianist Patti Bown — for an all-original program full of solid soloing and terrific group feeling.
