Gatefold 2LP, Remastered & Expanded
Mingus Dynasty, like its companion Mingus Ah Um, was recorded in 1959, a watershed year for the eruptive bassist-composer Charles Mingus. Leading a repertory company of some of New York's best and most creative improvisers, Mingus challenged two ensembles as they had never been challenged before. There are familiar Mingus themes, two generations of Ellington honored, a pair of fiery gospel-and-blues originals, and complex pieces such as "Far Wells, Mill Valley." This expanded edition, prepared by Michael Cuscuna, adds unedited versions plus the bonus track "Strollin'."
