Recorded in 1957, The Opener was trombonist Curtis Fuller's first album as a leader for Blue Note. Fuller — whose celebrated work on John Coltrane's Blue Train is among his best-known performances — fronts a stellar hard-bop quintet featuring Hank Mobley on tenor saxophone, Bobby Timmons on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Art Taylor on drums. This reissue is part of Blue Note's 75th Anniversary vinyl initiative.
