180 Gram Mono Vinyl, Remastered by Ray Staff at Air Mastering, Pressed at Pallas in Germany
Recorded in September 1955 in Hollywood, Daddy Plays the Horn marked the reigniting of Dexter Gordon's career after several years out of the spotlight, with the tenor giant resurfacing on the Bethlehem label. Backed by pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Leroy Vinnegar, and drummer Larry Marable, Gordon moves from the swinging title tune and Charlie Parker's "Confirmation" to stellar ballad readings of "Darn That Dream" and "Autumn In New York." An emotive, hard-swinging session, reissued on audiophile vinyl.
