Deceiver is the third full-length from Brooklyn's DIIV, occupying the corners between fuzzed-out shoegaze bliss, troubadour poetry, and metallic catharsis. Written and road-tested in the wake of frontman Zachary Cole Smith's recovery, it is the band's most focused and cathartic work to date, recorded with producer Sonny Diperri at 64 Sound. From the galloping single "Skin Game" to the seven-minute closer "Acheron," the album marks a clear-headed, hard-earned new chapter for the group.
