Founded in 1977, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band revolutionized the New Orleans brass band tradition by folding funk and bebop into the classic second-line sound. On this 2006 release, recorded a year after Hurricane Katrina, the band reimagines Marvin Gaye's landmark album What's Going On as a furious and hopeful response to the disaster and its aftermath. A roster of guest vocalists – including Chuck D, Bettye LaVette, Ivan Neville, G. Love, and Guru – joins the band to turn Gaye's questions into a present-day reckoning.
