Ella at the Shrine captures a newly discovered live performance recorded at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on January 21, 1956 - just weeks after Ella Fitzgerald became the first artist signed to Norman Granz's new Verve label, and ten days before her famous Zardi's date. Part of Granz's Jazz at the Philharmonic series, the set languished unheard in the vaults for more than sixty years before its release. It captures Ella at the dawn of her Verve era.
