Guru's Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1 is a landmark 1993 jazz-rap album from the Gang Starr MC, and one of the first records to unite a live jazz band with hip hop production and rapping. It brought together jazz greats both old-school and new, including Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd, Lonnie Liston Smith, Ronny Jordan and Courtney Pine, alongside vocal collaborators Carleen Anderson, N'Dea Davenport, Dee C. Lee and French rapper MC Solaar. The result is a diverse, distinctly jazz-flavored set, reissued by UMe on standard-weight vinyl as part of its Respect The Classics campaign.
